Uniform Titles

UNIFORM TITLES

The uniform title identifies an item if it has appeared under varying titles. This is especially important in music.

Example:

Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus, 1756-1791.
Concertos, piano, orchestra, K. 488, A major        [uniform title]
Concerto in A major for piano, K. 488 ….                  [title on item]

Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus, 1756-1791.

Concertos, piano, orchestra, K. 488, A major        [uniform title]
Konzert A Dur, K. 488, fur Klavier ….                       [title on item]

Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus, 1756-1791.
Concertos, piano, orchestra, K. 488, A major        [uniform title]
Piano concerto in A major, K. 488 ….                        [title on item]

This way all items that are the same piece of music are shelved together, even if the publishers gave them different titles.
