ESCALA Education Resources: HSI Faculty Development
ESCALA is a trailblazer in improving the well-being of Latinx students and making Latinx student success in higher education the new status quo. Our passion, authenticity, and expertise in culturally responsive programming are unparalleled for the following reasons:
Our facilitators are thriving and experienced HSI practitioners, and;
The majority of those who work with ESCALA have lived experience as Latinx people in higher education and;
We have a deep well of experience working with more than 50 different HSIs across the U.S. over the last decade.
Excellencia in Education
Excelencia in Education, founded in 2004, accelerates Latino student success in higher education to address the U.S. economy’s need for a highly educated workforce and for civic leadership by:
Providing data-driven analysis of the educational status of Latinos;
Promoting education policies and institutional practices that support their academic achievement; and
Organizing a network of professionals with common cause for Latino student success.
Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators
The Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE) exists to support the work of the nation’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) as they seek to provide quality, relevant educational opportunities to large and growing numbers of underserved populations, particularly Hispanic students. All of the Alliance’s activities directly benefit practitioners and educators at HSIs through measures that involve cooperation, networking, partnerships, information-sharing, technical assistance and collaboration.
American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education
The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) addresses issues and concerns affecting Hispanics, with a focus on higher education. While the Hispanic population is the largest ethnic minority population in America, Hispanics are still highly underrepresented in the undergraduate and graduate enrollments and graduation rates.

US Dept. of Education- HSI Division
The Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Division provides grant funding to institutions of higher education to assist with strengthening institutional programs, facilities, and services to expand the educational opportunities for Hispanic Americans and other underrepresented populations.

White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunities for Hispanics
Originally established in 1990, the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics (Initiative) was re-established in 2021 through executive order by President Joe Biden, who expanded the Initiative’s scope to center on advancing educational equity and economic opportunity for Latino and Hispanic students, families, and communities. The nation’s future prosperity and global leadership across sectors is intrinsically tied to the success of Hispanic and Latino students, and their success is a priority of this Administration.
IPEDS
IPEDS is a system of 12 interrelated survey components conducted annually that gathers data from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs. The data collections occur in fall, winter, and spring

Cultivating Excelencia Podcast
Through the Cultivating Excelencia podcast series, you will hear directly from leaders of some of the programs recognized as Examples of Excelencia. Excelencia in Education recognizes programs at the associate, baccalaureate and graduate levels and at community-based organizations as Examples of Excelencia. These programs demonstrate evidence of effectiveness in accelerating Latino student success in higher education.
The HSI Podcast (at John F. Kennedy University)
This podcast series is part of the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Grant awarded to John F. Kennedy University October 2015. Each episode supports our grant’s educational outreach to raise awareness of the value and importance of higher education within the Latino community. It illustrates the value HSIs provide with customized academic services and cultural understanding to support Hispanics and Latinos pursuing their college degrees. This information becomes even more valuable as the U.S. Latino population grows and Latinos prepare for leadership roles.
